Transfers from Moutiers train station: how pick-up works

Arriving at Moutiers train station puts you a short drive from the big Tarentaise ski resorts. Our taxi waits outside the station all winter, and other vans come on pre-booked transfers. Your driver tracks your train, meets you with a sign bearing your name and takes you to your accommodation.

Arriving at Moutiers-Salins-Brides-les-Bains station

On tickets and departure boards, the station appears under its official name: Moutiers-Salins-Brides-les-Bains. The name links the town with the neighbouring spa villages of Salins and Brides-les-Bains. Locally, everyone just calls it Moutiers station. Do not be misled by the name: Brides-les-Bains is not at the station, and there are still a few kilometres of road to the spa town.

The station is the rail gateway to the 3 Valleys, where skiers bound for Méribel, Courchevel or Val Thorens leave the train. You step off with your skis and suitcases, and the rest of the journey is by road. To plan the rail leg, see our guide to reaching the 3 Valleys by train.

The station taxi rank

Right outside the station is the Moutiers taxi rank. Our taxi stays on the rank throughout the winter: only taxis authorised by the town may wait for passengers there.

If you have booked, there is no need to hunt for a free car: the driver knows who they are meeting and on which train. Other vans in the team handle pre-booked transfers, so several groups can be met off the same arrival. Every vehicle is a Mercedes van seating up to 8, kept for your party alone.

A name-sign welcome, even when the train is late

When you book, you give us your train number. The driver tracks its actual arrival time and waits for you at the station holding a sign with your name. They speak English and French, so there is no need to rehearse your phrasebook.

A delay requires nothing from you, since it is the train itself we follow. If you miss a connection and switch trains, call or message us on WhatsApp at +33 6 45 15 19 18 with the new train number.

Skis, snowboards, suitcases and pushchairs go from platform to van without fuss. To travel light on the train and find out what fits in the boot, read our guide to skis and luggage, from train to transfer.

Saturdays at the station: crowds and taxi queues

In winter, Saturday is changeover day across the Tarentaise. Trains arrive full, the forecourt fills with skiers, and the queue at the taxi rank can grow long for anyone who has not booked. With a booking, you skip that queue entirely, because your driver is already there for you.

The roads up to the resorts are busy that day too. Allow more time than on a weekday, especially for the highest resorts. On winter Saturdays and Sundays, from early December to early May, a winter weekend surcharge applies, explained alongside the other rules in our prices from the station.

Still weighing up a coach against a private van? Our honest comparison of transfer, shuttle or bus from the station sets out the options.

Heading back to Moutiers station

On departure day, the same journey runs in reverse. Tell us when your train leaves and we will agree a pick-up time at your accommodation, leaving enough margin for the road and for boarding calmly with all your bags. On a Saturday, set off earlier than on other days, as the whole valley heads down at once.

Your driver drops you right outside the station. Book both legs together; each one is paid to the driver who carries it out. As on the way up, there is no deposit and you pay the driver directly.

All our destinations and their valleys are set out on our home page.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the taxi when I leave Moutiers station?

Outside the station, at the taxi rank. If you have booked, your driver is waiting with a sign bearing your name, so there is no need to look for a free vehicle or join the queue.

What happens if my train arrives late?

Your driver follows the actual arrival time using the train number you gave when booking, and adjusts to the delay. Changing trains? Let us know on +33 6 45 15 19 18 by call or WhatsApp.

Can I get a taxi at the station without booking?

Our taxi is parked outside the station all winter and can take you if it is free when you arrive. On winter Saturdays the queue can be long, so book ahead rather than rely on it.

Are Moutiers station and Moutiers-Salins-Brides-les-Bains station different?

No, they are the same station: Moutiers-Salins-Brides-les-Bains is its official name, the one printed on tickets. The town of Brides-les-Bains itself lies about 6 km further on, in the Bozel valley.
