Train to the 3 Valleys: everything goes through Moutiers
Taking the train to the 3 Valleys means getting off at Moutiers station, where the roads to Val Thorens, Les Menuires, Méribel and Courchevel begin. From there it is roughly 25 minutes to 1 hour by road, depending on the resort. In winter, direct trains arrive from Paris, Belgium and the Netherlands; off-season, you will usually need to change.
Moutiers, the 3 Valleys station
Several stations on the Tarentaise line serve ski resorts, but for the 3 Valleys, Moutiers is the one to get off at. Its official name, the one printed on your ticket, is Moutiers-Salins-Brides-les-Bains. The Méribel and Courchevel tourist offices name it as the nearest station to their resort, and the Val Thorens tourist office gives the coach line linking its bus station with Moutiers.
Stations further up the line, such as Aime-la-Plagne, Landry and Bourg-Saint-Maurice, serve other ski areas. Albertville, further down, is another stop on the way. For a 3 Valleys holiday, have your bags ready before Moutiers and do not stay on board: most snow trains carry on to Bourg-Saint-Maurice.

Off-season and from other cities
Outside the winter period there is generally no direct train between Paris and Moutiers: on an ordinary October 2026 day, SNCF Connect only shows journeys with one or two changes, for example at Chambéry, taking 4 hr 20 min at best.
Within Savoie, regional TER trains reach Moutiers without a change:
- from Albertville, in about half an hour;
- from Chambéry, in roughly 1 hr 15 min to 1 hr 30 min on direct services.
From Lyon, allow just over 3 hours by TER, with one change. These times are those shown by SNCF Connect and vary with trains and engineering works. For more practical advice, from arriving at the station to Saturday traffic, see our guides.
From the station to your resort
From Moutiers, three roads lead into the 3 Valleys:
- to the Belleville valley: Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, Les Menuires and finally Val Thorens, the highest, about 38 km and 45 minutes to 1 hour from the station;
- to Méribel and Méribel-Mottaret, via Brides-les-Bains, roughly 25 to 45 minutes depending on the district;
- to Courchevel and La Tania, via the Bozel valley, roughly 25 to 45 minutes depending on the village.
The same station also serves Brides-les-Bains, Bozel, Champagny-en-Vanoise, Pralognan-la-Vanoise, Valmorel and Doucy. There is no need to look for another station for these resorts: everything starts from Moutiers.
From train to transfer, without the wait
The easiest way is to book your transfer when you book your train. Give us your train number: we track its actual arrival time, and if it runs late, the driver adjusts to the new time. You are met outside the station with a sign bearing your name; you load your skis and suitcases and set off without queuing at the taxi rank.
The price is fixed and known when you book, and you pay the driver directly. For the return transfer, tell us when you want to leave the resort: we check it leaves enough margin for your train, especially on a Saturday. The pick-up is explained on our Moutiers train station page; if you are weighing up the coach, read our taxi, bus or shuttle comparison.
