Skis and luggage: from the train to your transfer at Moutiers

Skis and luggage by train, then by road: at every stage of the journey, everything has to fit. The rules change with each rail operator, then again with the vehicle taking you up to the resort. We have checked the operators' rules for winter 2026-2027 and explain what we load into our Mercedes vans outside Moutiers station.

Skis and luggage on TGV INOUI

According to the SNCF Voyageurs luggage page, updated on 30-09-2026, each TGV INOUI passenger may take either:
- two bags of up to 70 x 90 x 50 cm, plus one piece of hand luggage of 40 x 30 x 15 cm;
- or one bag of up to 70 x 90 x 50 cm, one special item of up to 90 x 130 x 50 cm and one piece of hand luggage. The special item covers skis, snowboards and folded pushchairs, among others.

Skis must travel in a labelled ski bag designed for the purpose, one pair per passenger, with no length limit. A snowboard must be in a bag of up to 90 x 130 x 50 cm. Every piece of luggage must carry a label with your name and mobile number. A non-compliant or extra bag can cost at least €50, up to €150. On board, luggage goes in the dedicated spaces, never in the aisle or in front of the doors.

Skis on OUIGO, Eurostar Snow and TER

On OUIGO, which serves Moutiers from Paris in winter, skis travel in their bags in a dedicated storage space on board for €5, according to OUIGO's ski page for the season from 17-12-2026 to 28-03-2027. For a large holdall or several suitcases, OUIGO offers an extra luggage option, so add it when you buy your ticket.

On Eurostar Snow, skis are not charged separately. According to Eurostar, adults in Standard or Plus can take two bags up to 85 cm long, one piece of hand luggage and their skis or snowboard, all included in the fare. There is no weight limit, as long as you can handle your bags getting on and off the train.

On the regional TER trains linking Moutiers with Chambéry or Albertville, SNCF simply asks that you can carry your luggage yourself and that it fits in the spaces provided.

Ski bags, labels and boots: useful precautions

A few simple habits avoid unpleasant surprises between the platform and the resort:
- a bag for every pair of skis and every snowboard: rail operators require one, and it also protects the other luggage in the back of the van;
- poles slipped inside the ski bag rather than carried separately;
- a label with your name and mobile number on every bag, compulsory on TGV INOUI;
- ski boots in a separate boot bag, never on your feet: wearing them is actually banned on coaches sold by Altibus;
- a small backpack for documents, gloves and snacks, kept with you during the journey;
- if you hire your equipment in the resort, you travel lighter, with only suitcases to carry.

What fits in an 8-seat Mercedes van

Our Mercedes vans carry up to 8 passengers with their luggage: suitcases, skis, snowboards and pushchairs. To get everything into one vehicle, the driver needs to know in advance what he will be loading. When you book, tell us:
- the number of passengers, adults and children;
- the number of suitcases and large bags;
- the number of pairs of skis and snowboards;
- whether you have a pushchair or any other bulky item.

The more passengers on board, the less room is left for equipment: for a group of 8 with a lot of gear, let us know and we will tell you in advance what is realistic. On arrival, the driver loads everything with you, then unloads it at your door. Our vehicles and their equipment are described on our service page.

Child seats and boosters: no need to bring them

Travelling by train with a car seat is a chore: it is bulky, and you have to carry it from the platform to the forecourt. We provide child seats and booster seats on request. Give us each child's age when you book, and the right seat will be ready in the van when you arrive.

Keep the pushchair for the station and the resort: it travels folded in the boot. On a long climb such as the one to Val Thorens, about 45 minutes to 1 hour from the station, a child who is comfortably seated travels more calmly. For Courchevel 1850, where drop-off is outside your hotel or chalet, the driver helps you unload your luggage at the door.

From platform to van at Moutiers station

As you arrive, get your bags ready before the train stops and step off without rushing: at Moutiers, many passengers get off at the same time with their skis, especially on Saturdays. Your driver waits outside the station with a sign bearing your name, then walks you to the van.

Before leaving the platform, count your bags, ski bags and boot bags. If anything has been left on board, tell the train or station staff straight away. Our Moutiers train station page explains the pick-up, and our other practical guides answer questions about trains, travel times and traffic.

Frequently asked questions

Do I pay extra for skis on the TGV?

For TGV INOUI, the SNCF Voyageurs luggage page does not mention any charge for a pair of skis in a labelled bag, within the luggage allowance. On OUIGO, skis in a bag cost €5 according to its ski page for the 2026-2027 season.

Will our skis fit in the van with 8 passengers?

The van carries its passengers' skis and suitcases, but space depends on the total volume. For a group of 8 with a lot of gear, list your luggage when you book and we will tell you in advance whether everything fits.

Do I need to bring a car seat?

No. Child seats and booster seats are provided on request, so you do not have to carry them on the train. Give the children's ages when booking so the right seat is ready when you arrive at the station.

Are skis allowed on the coach from the station?

Yes. On routes from railway stations sold by Altibus, the ticket includes one hold bag, one piece of hand luggage and one pair of skis or a snowboard. Wearing ski boots on board, however, is not allowed.
