Pick-up at Moutiers station for Val Thorens
As you leave Moutiers station, your driver is waiting with a sign bearing your name. Your driver speaks English and French, loads skis, snowboards and suitcases into the van and gets everyone settled, with child seats and boosters ready if you asked for them.
Val Thorens is the longest climb in the valley, so keep anything you will want during the hour on the road within reach: water, a warm layer, something to keep the children busy. The price agreed for Val Thorens when you booked does not change on arrival, and you pay the driver directly.

The road from Moutiers to Val Thorens
From Moutiers, a single road climbs the Belleville valley all the way to Val Thorens. It passes Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, runs through Les Menuires and keeps climbing to 2,300 m: about 38 km and 45 minutes to an hour, depending on snow and traffic. It is the longest climb of all our routes from the station, with a height gain of almost 1,800 m.
On winter Saturdays, when most holidays begin and end, traffic heads up and down the valley at once and the drive to Val Thorens can take considerably longer. If your train arrives that day, leave some slack in your first evening's plans: your driver knows the road well but cannot make a queue disappear.
Transfer, coach or bus up to Val Thorens? Our guide weighs up all three: Moutiers taxi, bus or shuttle.
Arriving in Val Thorens: where you are dropped off
Val Thorens was built around skiing, and much of its centre is pedestrianised, so vehicles cannot drive freely through it. Where you are dropped off therefore depends on where you are staying. If the access road to your building is open to vehicles, the driver stops at the entrance; if not, you are set down at the nearest authorised point and helped with the unloading.
To get the drop-off right first time, give the exact name and address of your accommodation when you book, or forward the details from your letting agent. Many residences have similar names, and a precise address saves a detour around the resort.
At 2,300 m it is cold, and snow often lies right up to the buildings, so keep gloves and a hat in your hand luggage rather than at the bottom of a suitcase. With children, skis and several bags, the 8-seat van lets you unload everything in one go.

Bus or transfer to Val Thorens?
On the way back, the driver collects you in Val Thorens, either where you were dropped off or at a point you choose. When booking, tell us the time you would like to leave the resort; if it looks tight for your train, we can suggest a better time.
Work backwards from your train: about 45 minutes to an hour down in normal conditions, longer on a winter Saturday, plus time to load the skis and reach the platform. Book the journeys up and down together and it is all arranged from the start.
In winter, coaches link Moutiers station with the Belleville valley resorts, Val Thorens included. If you are travelling alone or as a couple, with light luggage and flexible timing, the coach is the cheapest option. A private transfer pays off for groups: eight people in the van at €180 works out at €22.50 each, leaving when your train arrives and dropping you near your accommodation rather than at a fixed stop. With children and kit, it also means an hour's climb with no changes.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a transfer from Moutiers station to Val Thorens?
It costs €130 for 1 to 3 people, a fixed price per vehicle. Add €10 for each passenger beyond three, which makes €180 for eight. Winter weekends carry a surcharge; the exact price is shown before you book.
Can the driver drop us at our residence in Val Thorens?
Yes, whenever the road leading to it is open to vehicles. In the pedestrian centre, the driver stops at the nearest authorised point and helps with your bags. Please give the exact address of your accommodation when booking.
Can we travel between Val Thorens and Moutiers at night?
Yes. Night journeys are charged at the base price, with no late-hour supplement, so a late train or a very early departure from Val Thorens costs the same as a daytime trip, apart from the winter weekend surcharge.
There are eight of us with skis: how does the loading work?
The van carries up to 8 passengers, and we take skis, snowboards, suitcases and pushchairs. Tell us how many pairs of skis and large cases you have when you book, so the driver can plan the loading before the climb.
